Kubo Sakura

The KUBO SAKURA(桜) captures the quiet beauty of depth through a soft pink lacquer dial inspired by the delicate color of cherry blossoms.

The name KUBO derives from the Japanese character 「窪」, meaning a hollow or recessed space. Throughout Japanese architecture and craftsmanship, subtle variations in depth are often valued not for their prominence, but for the shadows and atmosphere they create. This philosophy forms the foundation of KUBO—a watch whose character emerges not from what rises above the surface, but from what quietly recedes beneath it.

Its defining feature is the recessed small-seconds display positioned between four and five o’clock. Unlike traditional small-seconds watches, KUBO intentionally omits a printed seconds track. Rather than emphasizing the measurement of time, the subdial exists as a subtle architectural element within the overall composition. As light moves across the dial, delicate shadows appear within the recess, creating a sense of depth that reveals itself gradually.

Applied Arabic numerals finished with fine vertical brushing stand proudly above the lacquer surface, creating a refined contrast between texture and gloss. Together with the recessed subdial, they establish a dial architecture built around depth rather than decoration.

The glossy ivory lacquer surface reflects light with a gentle warmth, while a heat-treated blued steel small-seconds hand introduces a restrained accent against the soft background. The combination creates a calm and balanced expression that gradually reveals its complexity over time.

The counterweight of the seconds hand adopts KIWAME TOKYO ASAKUSA’s signature motif inspired by the roofline of Asakusa’s Kaminarimon gate, serving as a subtle reminder of the collection’s origins. Luminous material is applied to the hour and minute hands, while discreet luminous accents at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock provide orientation in darkness without disturbing the dial’s calm appearance during the day.

Sized at 37mm in diameter, with a case body measuring under 9.5mm in thickness and an overall height of just 10.7mm including the domed sapphire crystal, KUBO offers the elegant proportions of a classical dress watch. The vertically brushed flat bezel introduces a subtle field-watch character, balancing refinement with everyday practicality. Powered by the Miyota 82S5 automatic movement, KUBO combines the visual refinement expected of a dress watch with the reliability required for daily wear.
